Man, 22, docked over attempt to rape 80-yr-old blind woman

GOMBE — Officials of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, have arrested 22-year-old Mohammed Inuwa of Herwagana quarters, Gombe for attempting to rape an 80-year-old blind woman, Malama Hannutu Baba.
The Gombe State Commander of NSCDC, Mr Joel Khestossen said, Tuesday, that the suspect was arrested on August 23.
Khestossen said the suspect was charged to Kasuwan Shanu Magistrates’ court and later remanded in prison custody on the orders of the magistrate.
According to him, the suspect gained entry into the blind woman’s house under the pretext of looking for one Kabiru Sani, a student of the Federal College of Education (Technical) Gombe.
He said: “When he entered the house, there was nobody, as everybody had gone to the mosque except the blind woman.
“When she heard his footsteps, she asked who the person was and the suspect did not talk but quietly went and grabbed the woman.
“He started struggling with her as he tried to force her to have sex with him.
“Unfortunately for him, the woman’s grandson, Malam Mohammed Baba, returned from the mosque and discovered what was going on. He raised an alarm which attracted people to the house.”
He said the people overpowered the suspect and handed him over to NSCDC.
He appealed to the public to always report such cases to the appropriate security authorities for necessary action.

MAN THREATENS TO STAB WIFE FOR REFUSING TO TEACH HIM HOW TO USE FACEBOOK

 

 A Gweru man recently went berserk, bashed his wife and even threatened to stab her with a knife after she reportedly refused to teach him how to open and use a Facebook account.

The man, Benjamin Chanyau of 1242 Mkoba Village 18, appeared before Gweru magistrate Ms Sithandekile Ncube facing charges of domestic violence. He was found guilty of assaulting his wife, Ms Fadzai Muchavhaira and fined US$200 or in default one month imprisonment.

The State's case as presented by Mr Bonwell Balamanja is that on 21 February, the complainant, Ms Muchavhaira was taught how to open and operate a Facebook account by her brother at the couple's house in Mkoba Village 18 in the presence of the accused.

After the departure of Ms Muchavhaira's brother, Chanyau asked his beloved wife to open her Facebook account and teach him how to operate the social network website. Chanyau also demanded to see what his wife was posting on her Facebook account alleging that Facebook was bad for married couples.

The wife refused to comply leading to a misunderstanding between the two. Chinyau got furious and kicked the complainant in the stomach once with a booted foot. He reportedly went on the threaten to stab his wife with a knife is she failed to show him what was on her Facebook wall and teach him how to use Facebook.

3 Docked For Alleged Rape of 14-yr-old Girl

Three persons have been arraigned by the Police from Orile Division before an Ebute-Metta Chief Magistrate’s Court, Lagos, for allegedly having canal knowledge of a 14 -year-old girl.


A self-acclaimed pharmacist, Ijezie Chidiebere, 24, was charged along with Chikezie Ejesi, 25, and Okechukwu Ezea, 25. They were accused to have given the victim a ‘spiritual olive oil’ for her to drink under the pretense of cleaning her of demonic spirit to enable them have unlawful canal knowledge of her.
The police in a charge sheet number FCL/46/2013, said the three accused had committed the offense on August 3, 2013, at  Orile-Iganmu

According to the charge, the accused had conspired together to have canal knowledge of the victim who was sent to buy some drugs without her consent and in the process, destroyed the victim’s hymen. The accused were also alleged to have conducted themselves in a manner likely to cause a breach of the peace by falsely calling themselves pastors and gathered people inside the Chemist’s shop; and ordered them to call the victim all sorts of derogatory names, such as witch, wizard and demon possessed girl, all under the pretense of cleansing her spiritually.

Sergeant Quasim Adams, who held brief for the prosecutor, Corporal Anthonia Osayande (Mrs.), told the court the offenses contravened sections 409, 137 and 166 (1) (d) of criminal laws of Lagos state of Nigeria, 2011, and section 247 (b) of the criminal code   cap ‘C38, laws of the federation of Nigeria, 2004.

However, when the pleas of the accused were taken, they pleaded not guilty to the charges; and their counsel, Mr. Peter Omoludun, Ikechukwu Onodi and Ike Okafor, informed the court that the parties in the case were at the verge of settling the matter.

The presiding magistrate, Mr. K. O. Ogundare, who was not satisfied with the submission of the defense counsel, asked the victim if she was molested by the accused and she answered in affirmative.  Ogundare admitted the accused persons bail in the sum of N100, 000, with two sureties each. He ordered that the sureties must be gainfully employed not self-employed and show to court evidence of three years tax payment to Lagos state government.
The magistrate also told the police to transfer the case to Family Court at Surulere, for proper adjudication while the matter was adjourned till September 24, for mention.
